Nantan: The Life and Times of John P. Clum Volume 2
Tombstone To Los Angeles 1882 - 1932
Historians usually focus on John Clum’s life as an Indian Agent at San Carlos, or his brief stint as the Mayor of Tombstone. But he led a varied and exciting life beyond those few years.
John Clum took part in one of the first big real-estate booms in southern California in the late 1880’s.
As a Postal Inspector, Clum traveled all over the US. He was instrumental in breaking the Juarez Lottery Case and served briefly as a Deputy US Marshal in Texas.
One of his highest adventures was traveling with the “sourdoughs” on their way to the goldfields of Alaska and Canada’s Yukon Territory. Clum established US postal service all long the circuitous route. His method could establish a post office in a camp or town in 20 minutes, a process that had formerly taken three years.
In 1929, Clum attended Tombstone’s first Helldorado event, leaving a rich first-hand account of that momentous weekend.
Nantan Volume 2 covers Clum’s life from his first departure from Tombstone in the fall of 1882, through his death in Los Angeles in 1932 – and beyond.
