Tombstone: A Chronicle In Perspective provides a timeline of the old west with the emphasis on Tombstone, and those people associated with Tombstone, set in an easy-to-read table.

 

Column one shows the date of the event.  Column two shows births, deaths, marriages, gunfights, and other events pertaining either to the city of Tombstone, or people associated with Tombstone.

 

Column three shows other old-west events, including events associated with people like Billy The Kid, the James Gang, and old-west places like Deadwood, Leadville, Dodge City, etc.

 

Column four shows other regional, state, national and world events, to givve the reader a perspective on what was happening during that period,

 

For example, in December of 1881;

  • The Bird Cage Theatre opens in Tombstone
  • On his last Christmas Eve on earth, outlaw Jesse James dresses up as Santa Claus for his two children.
  • An electric probe is invented to find bullets in the body.

 

And in February, 1882:

  • In the wake of the OK Corral gunfight, a third murder charge is brought against the Earps and Doc Holliday
  • Frederick Remington’s first nationally published illustration titled, “Cowboys of Arizona” appears in Harper’s Weekly.
  • Roller skating mania is reported in Kansas.
